Moncofar

Municipality of Arabic origin. It was granted to him, after the conquest for Jaime I of Aragon, the Letter Populates in 1254 for Guillem de Montcada, in favour of Bernat Mestres and 37 more settlers. In the year 1609 in the maritime neighborhood of the Grau the expulsion of the Moriscos produced to itself from his port and Tower Watchtower, today in ruins. Moncófar's history always has been tied to the sea Mediterranean by means of the fishermen's maritime, pioneering settlement in this part of the littoral, and is there where, as it counts the legend, there came his mistress Santa María Magdalena, when they were taking her towards Marseilles. At present still can be observed in the interior the fence "Wall", today exceeded due to the urban expansion.
